Why is There an Increase in UK Home Improvement Demand?

2023 was a slow year in the industry. This is due to many uncertainties homeowners faced, especially when it came to expenditure, including rising interest rates, inflation and job insecurity.

However, things are turning around! Latest research shows homeowners are looking to make improvements to their property over the next two years. Why? One of the main reasons is moving house has become more costly, and buying and selling has become increasingly difficult.

Due to this, more people are looking at ways to improve their current home instead. In fact, 46% of people are planning some sort of home improvement between now and 2025.

The areas in the UK most likely to make home improvements within the next year are Wales (58%) and Yorkshire and Humber (48%).

The least likely is Northern Ireland (32%).

Functional Space is a Top Priority

Within the research, homeowners stated there were three things they found most important asked what was most important to them when upgrading the kitchen:

  • Quality and longevity
  • Budget and overall cost
  • Functionality and usability

Challenges with their current kitchens, such as not having enough storage (19%), or being functional enough (13%), were reasons homeowners have planned for a renovation.

Homeowners are looking for value-driven options that don’t compromise on quality, that will stand the test of time and look good for years to come, will optimise the available space, and allow for every day, multi-functional use.
