Nina’s Marathon Achievements Raise Over £6,000 for Charity

At SupaLite, we love sharing incredible stories of our amazing team and their achievements. One such story we’re proud of, is that of our Finance Director, Nina. There’s no better day to share her successes than on International Day of Charity.

Over the last few years, Nina has been running marathons to raise money for various charities, embodying the true spirit of giving back. For Nina, each step she takes on the marathon course is fuelled by a greater purpose – raising money for charities that are close to her heart.

To date, she has raised over £6,000… and she’s not stopping there!

As we recognise International Day of Charity, we’re excited to share Nina’s inspiring journey and the impact she’s made so far.

Surpassing Cash for Kids Fundraising Target

Nina’s first charity Marathon was in 2019, taking part in the famous and world’s largest, London Marathon for Cash for Kids, a charity supporting children and young people.

A gruelling 26.2 miles, this is a challenge only the most determined individuals can face.

With a fundraising target of £2500, she absolutely smashed this, raising just shy of £4000!

The remarkable success motivated her to continue. Since then, Nina has participated in numerous marathons, each time supporting charities close to her heart. Nina’s fundraisers have made a huge difference to the lives of many.

Doubling Her Goal for YoungMinds

In April 2024, Nina was fortunate enough to get a ballot place, running the London Marathon for a second time. She was determined to beat her best time of 6 hours and 22 minutes.

Although she didn’t need to raise any money this time to take part, she decided to fundraise for YoungMinds. This charity supports children’s and young people’s mental health.

Nina states:

‘’The past 14 years have seen a devastating impact on our public services, leaving them ill-equipped to meet the needs of those who rely on them. It is in this context that many charities have stepped up to provide a lifeline for those in need. One such charity is YoungMinds.

YoungMinds is an organisation that my family and I have personally turned to for support. Their work in supporting young people and their families is truly amazing. In today’s world, where young people are increasingly struggling with poor mental health, YoungMinds offers vital services that make a real difference.

I am determined to make a meaningful contribution by fundraising for Young Minds. Every pound donated will go towards providing essential resources and services for young people facing mental health challenges.’’

She raised a whopping £2053, more than double her initial fundraising target.

Unfortunately, on the day of the event, sickness struck, and she couldn’t complete the London Marathon. She managed just over 7 miles and had to retire due to dehydration. This spurred Nina on to complete the Lakeland 50 in July, which she was already signed up for.

Conquering the Lakeland 50

One of the greatest ultra trail challenges in Europe, the Lakeland 50 is a 50-mile event that is no easy feat! It traverses several high climbs in the Lakes, taking in around 10,000′ of elevated gain.

After the heartache of falling ill at the London Marathon, Nina was more determined than ever to give the Lakeland 50 event absolutely everything she had. Especially for those who helped raise over £2000 for Young Minds.

Nina completed this demanding 50-mile event in an incredible 23 hours!

‘’The memories of this weekend will last a lifetime. The aches and pains I currently have are a reminder of how much I put into it.’’

The Marathons Don’t Stop There

Nina shows no signs of slowing down. She hopes to gain a place again for Lakeland 50 in 2025, having recently entered the ballot to secure a place.

With each marathon, she sets new goals, not just in terms of personal records but also in the amount of money raised for charity.

We’re incredibly proud of Nina and all she’s accomplished. As she continues to cross finish lines for causes that matter, we’ll be cheering her on every step of the way.

We are proud to support Nina in her journey. We look forward to seeing the difference she will continue to make in the world, one marathon at a time.

No doubt we will be sharing more of her successes next International Day of Charity.
